    Message from the Board

With the launch of our new website, the Board first wishes to thank our community for its past and ongoing support of our efforts to help the most vulnerable in the Whittier area.   Your donations over the years have allowed us to operate the Cold Weather Shelter and, in recent years, to fund emergency lodging for homeless families with children.    More importantly, you have always responded to our requests to help  prepare and serve meals during the Cold Weather Shelter.  Over 900 volunteers helped us prepare meals during the last shelter period.

With much regret, we will not continue operating the shelter this year due to the  current pandemic.  We simply cannot operate the shelter in a manner that would guarantee not spreading the virus among our guests and the volunteers needed to operate the shelter.   Although it is with much sadness that we have made this decision, we are pleased that the City of Whittier has now opened the permanent Navigation Center.   It does provide comfort to us, knowing that the many guests that we now consider to be our friends will have year-round access to shelter and other services.

We pray for the end of the pandemic.  In the meantime, we will continue to help families with emergency shelter and address some of the critical material needs of those who are homeless.
